Only one of the three connections need power to have the riser fully functional. It is important not to use SATA adapters to power your GPU Risers. SATA adapters are known to cause fires if too many watts are passing through. GPURisers.com suggests only powering two a max of GPU Risers from a single Molex strand from your power supply if you choose to power via Molex.
